About Us
Chris’s Clock Repair
Welcome to Chris’s Clock Repair. We provide professional clock repair services
for antique and modern Grandfather, Cuckoo, Wall and Mantle Clocks. We do not
repair Anniversary (400-day), Battery or Electrical Clocks.
We have two locations and are headquartered in Southfield, MI (out of Chris’s
home). We serve the Detroit Metro and Lansing Areas.
Chris’s Clock Repair was founded by Chris Schroeder in 2020. His wife, Lisa,
answers the phone and we employ one full-time clock repairman, Brendan Schmitt
who was trained personally by Chris.
What separates the Chris’s Clock Repair brand apart from typical repair shops is
that we put a New and Young face on a very old profession. Although we are a
young team, we have many years of experience and have become well known for
professional level service throughout the area.
We have 4.8 average Stars on Google with 70 reviews and growing. By reports,
out customers are very happy with their experiences. The main reason for this, is
that we care not just for the clock, but for the customer.
We pride ourselves in the quality of our work and attempt to “leave no trace” that a
repairman was there. We always keep the clock original, repairing the clock as
2
opposed to replacing it with a new mechanism. If the clock does need a new part,
especially for an antique, many times we will manufacture a part from scratch.
There is, in clock repair, like other trades, levels of craftsmanship and we strive to
hold the highest standard while maintaining speed of service and excellent
customer service.
One of the things we like to do is take photos or videos of the repair process and
send these to the clients while work is underway on their clocks. They really like
this. We will even sometimes use the clock repair in a YouTube video and send
the customer the link.
Another key point of service that we pride ourselves in is transparency. We will
take the time to answer questions and explain how your clock works. When we are
in someone’s home, we welcome and encourage you to watch what the repair
process and we are more that happy to show you what we are doing, what is wrong
and how we go about repairing it.
Chris’s Clock Repair has been featured in the Detroit Free Press, VoyageMichigan
Magazine, CanvasRebel Magazine and more recently a Shoutout Feature
Magazine. We have over 4000 Subscribers on YouTube and we are gearing up for
even greater expansion in the year 2025. We plan to expand facilities and take on
more apprentices to bring new life to a dying art.
Christopher Schroeder
Founder
Hi my name is Chris Schroeder. I am a professional clock repairman and proud
owner of Chris’s Clock Repair. We are a small business that operates out of my
home. My wife Lisa is our capable receptionist and I have one full-time clock
repairman, Brendan Schmitt who I trained as my first apprentice.
My journey began many years ago as a mechanical engineering student at the
University of Toledo in Ohio. I graduated with a Masters of Mechanical
Engineering in 2008; whereupon, I moved to Michigan and started my career as an
entrepreneur. I had worked in the automotive industry in college as a design
engineer, but quickly realized that a desk job sitting at a cubicle was not for me.
In 2009 I fortuitously befriended a clock repairman, Fred Bartholomew of All
Clocks Repaired. I started working for him part-time and immediately became
intrigued by the profession of clock repair. After some years of working for him
cleaning clocks and helping to disassemble and repair them, he agreed to take me
on as an apprentice.
I trained as a clock repairman from 2010 to 2015 and then began working for him
as a professional clock repairman. This continued until 2020 when CoVid hit.
That’s when life started to get very interesting. Needless to say, no one was calling
to have us repair their clocks. So, not having any work, I started making
educational clock repair videos and posting them on YouTube. And not long after
2
that restrictions started to ease and I starting getting calls in response to my social
media and YouTube presence. And that is how Chris’s Clock Repair was born.
In the same year, I got married to my beautiful wife, Lisa and we had our first
daughter, Madison Lee in October of 2021. I am a proud husband and father.
My YouTube channel now has over 4000 followers and I have since been featured
in the Detroit Free Press, VoyageMichigan Magazine, CanvasRebel Magazine and
have expanded from one location in Detroit to a second one in Lansing. We are
now one of the most respected and sought after clock repair services in Michigan.
I am so happy and grateful for all the success that I have had. It certainly hasn’t
been an easy road. I would not be here today without the support of my wonderful
wife and our incredible daughter. And Brendan has been a godsend. He is a great
repairman and a an even better human being. My success certainly wasn’t
overnight. It was steady disciplined work every day with the promise of a better
future driving me to overcome any and all obstacles.
Brendan Schmitt
Lead Clock Repairman
Hi, I’m Brendan Schmitt. Chris’s second in command and Lead Repairman at the company. Since I was young I’ve always had an inclination toward finding out how things tick. Pun intended. My family actually never had any clocks in the house, so much to my parents’ disdain, I would disassemble pretty much every toy I got for Christmas or my Birthday. I would also help my dad working on his ‘63 Corvette in the garage, or ask a million questions when he has to work on the furnace or another appliance.
This carried on to my adolescence. In my high school years I was a huge nerd, I took all the fancy classes like biological sciences, calculus and physics. My high school unfortunately had no shop or trades classes other than CAD, so I had to study these principles almost entirely on my own. Luckily we did have a robotics team and my grade got us a championship win at Oakland County’s OCCRA in 2019. When I was 16 I was gifted my first lathe, I gained a lot of experience in machining and fabrication through that.
Once I graduated from high school in 2020 I was uncertain if I wanted to be blue collar or white collar, to do trades or stick with the education system. I decided on the trades first. I tried a few different jobs but nothing ever seemed to click with me the way I wanted. In the meantime I was getting into watch and clock repair on a hobby level so I wanted to see who would be hiring in the watch or clock repair world. I called several places and nobody wanted to teach anybody, until I called Chris. I didn’t know it at the time, but Chris turned out to be the only person in the Detroit Metro area that was willing to train someone in clock repair. Along with some reading, Chris taught me the rest of the clock repair I know. I am very fortunate to have a mentor like Chris, he is knowledgeable but not arrogant in that knowledge. He is not driven by superiority like many other teachers, he treated me like an equal from the get-go. He never felt offended when I, or even a customer, challenged the way things are done. His open-mindedness in clock repair and as a businessman carried to me once I was at the professional level. We are always improving and refining the methods, practices, and procedures to create the best experience for our clients and at the same time prioritizing keeping the soul of their clocks alive.
I greatly enjoy clock repair. Now at 22 with my own location, I consider myself very lucky that I was able to find a job that I am good at and greatly enjoy at such a young age.
